Missing You.

As you the readers, might be aware, I’m hugely influenced by the works of Leonard Cohen. This poem bares format similarities to Leonard’s poems/songs,  “Love Calls You By Name”  and, “Bird On A Wire”. I’m Forever grateful for Leonard Cohen’s profound impact on my writings and my life’s attitudes.  This old poem was written when my Lady’s deteriorating medical condition and medical equipment and care needs, left me no alternative but to relocate myself to the other bedroom of our home, where upon, the music played and my words flowed.

Missing You.

Missing you, like a bee and her distant hive.

Like the sun with no sky.

Missing you, like the moon of last night.

Like my eyes with no sight.

Between the rain and my pain.

Between the calm and the storm.

Between the waterfall and the pond.

Between my heart and the beyond.

Missing you, like a swallow with no breeze.

Like a whale in the sea.

Missing you, Like the universe with no dark.

Like the strings in a harp.

Between the rage and your cage.

Between the winds and the waves.

Between the ground and your flowers.

Between the castle of your towers.

Missing you, like the beach with no sand.

Like the dove from above.

Missing you, like a mother and her newborn child.

Like a lonely stag in the wild.

Between the river and the broken levee.

Between the kiss of your hips.

I know you can hear me,

I know you can see me,

I know you’re near,

Yet you’re far away from here.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. Thankyou Kelvin, it was written over 10 years ago, but funnily enough as I edited and typed the poem into my blog site, seemed to be so relevant for me today, … I’m glad I retrieved it out my old files

    1. Thankyou Karen, I’m feeling very humbled and honoured, and so happy that you could relate to my words, ah it’s all thanks to Leonard Cohen, …. his gentle words and music helped me survive some awfully traumatic times. …

  1. You are a soul writer too. The images and emotions you bring with your words are so intensely moving. Your love shines through and the heartbreak too. The course of true love never does run smooth, does it?

    1. Thankyou Juliet, I tend to write with lots of emotion, mainly straight from the heart, totally unabridged, it’s my form of self therapy, and I’m so pleased you appreciated my words. x

    1. Oh sweet Amberley, you’ve read a poem from last year. Yes, I like to write one of those every now and then, maybe I like to cry, but really there tears are of Liquid Joy, and I wrote these two lines years ago, .” How many rivers of tears must we cry. Before all the deepest wells run dry”

      2. Oh that’s so nice of you, I’m not one who writes a poem every day, maybe 2 or 3 a week. I don’t write for just writings sake, I write when I’m in the mood or I’ve had one of my dreams that I jot down and remember, or I’ve been jolt by a special event or scene. 😊 Thanks for taking the extra time to read my humble writings, you make me feel quite special. 😊 xx

  2. Wow Ivor, this is great. Leonard’s influence comes across strongly, but it’s all yours.
It must be so hard, having to leave the marriage bed even though the love still flows from both sides. I often think of how cruel fate was to you and your beautiful wife. I think of how you must have said “In sickness and in health” during your marriage vows, never expecting the sickness to come so soon… and then you stood by her, as you would for one you love. xx
