Walking Home

Tis early, very early, presumably a foggy weekend morn.

So early, all the front bedroom lights are out ’til dawn.

And the groaning of lustful lovers, have all been timed out.

Even the yapping old canines, are unusually burnt-out.

I’ve been wandering these darkly streets, groping on trust.

Looking for her, a little piece of wonderous stardust.

All I found was a discarded mug of leftover moonshine.

Oh yeah, just like the decadent old days, still I pine.

Intoxication setting in again, I’m dreaming unsound.

A girl so mysterious, out here, where to be found.

I stumble, forgetting how to walk, and I hit the ground.

And it’s the end, another fallen night, out on the town.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. How lovely ā¤ The girl "a little piece of wondrous stardust" I adore this image and the last stanza is such a delight. "I am dreaming unsound", I love this phrase. The parallel between the night and the man falling brings great movement to your piece. Another beautiful read. I follow your blog so eagerly!

  2. I felt I was there, with this reveller, as he longed and pondered, and stumbled. I was holding out my arm as he fell, offering my hand to help him out. Beautiful capturing of those moments when all night revelling becomes early morning.
