Showcase And Grace

The Sandbox Writing Challenge 2018 — Exercise 5
What it is about you that you feel makes you
different from everybody else? From Calensariel, Impromptu Promptlings

I am not so different.

I am not an animal.

Crying in a cage.

I live in a bubble of air.

Like everyone else.

I breathe the same.

Stand alone during the game.

I limp and shuffle.

At this age, we’re all lame.

The brain is forgetful.

But the memory bank is full.

I tire more quickly.

And plug-in early.

Beauty sleep and a recharge.

Dream of a pretty face.

Tomorrow she’s a new showcase.

Life is no longer a race.

Hiking at her comfortable pace.

I am not so different.

I am not unlike you.

Like everyone else.

I seek love and grace.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. I think you did a great job with your poem. Love and grace are what life is all about. It’s so easy to show it to others, but sometimes harder to be that way with ourselves. (Are you sure you weren’t writing about me! Sounds an awful lot like me! Guess that proves your point, eh? 😉 )

  2. I fell in love with this honest look at yourself and by doing so revealing the beauty of your humanity. The words tell me of a youthful spirit alive with much goodness even though the frame may need some extra TLC on some days. My favourite are those two last lines, the feeling of looking to belong to someone and to do it gracefully even as we age. love this very much Ivor, you have captured the essence of wanting to be loved and accepted as you are so beautifully.
