Oh, Children
I’m deeply saddened
Your innocence lost
Burnt by the cross
You’re not to blame
For this baptism of shame
By the priests dirty games
Filthy rapists by any other name
Piously veiled by higher Cloth
The Lord’s words, written off
Hidden up darkened sleeves
I cannot see, I no longer believe
On a prayer and a song
The church is doing wrong
Lullaby Lyrics – Leonard Cohen
The days on the run
The wind in the trees is talking in tones
LullabyIf your heart is torn
I don’t wonder why
If the night is gone
Is my lover there
Is my lover thereWell the mouse eats the crumb,
Then the cat eats the crumb.
Now they’ve fallen in love,
Then they’re talking in tones
If your heart is torn
I don’t wonder why
If the night is gone
Is my lover there
Is my lover there
Sleep baby sleep,
There’s the morning to come,
The winds in the trees,
They’re talking in tones

Thank Helene, not an easy topic to write about without getting to ugly and brutal, and the subject is really about the victims, the children, ….

I was very tired, but it’s funny when you’re angry, how you can find the extra energy within…..

That song is one of my favorites and always makes me cry.
I went by Walt’s site to read his poem and leave a comment for him.
Your poem is so powerful, Ivor.
All of this continuing to go on just rips at my heart. 😦 I have a too personal connection to abuse like you write about. 😦

so much sadness, I want to ignore it all, selfishly and honestly I do, but I can’t, so much injustice what can we do except write about it. good poem Ivor but very heavy on the heart

I’m sorry Gina, it was such an awful subject to write about, and that is the main problem here, it’s been swept under the door for far too long. I needed to say some powerful words, without being too ugly or brutal, I hope I achieved that.

no Ivor you write with a lot of sensitivity, it is not an easy subject to write on, no words can take the edge of such monstrosities

Ok, that’s good, thanks for the vote of confidence, xx

Damn Ivor, friggin great poem. The children that were ravaged by the cloth, seen of no importance to the Pope or the World. Great job, your writing is incredible and powerful.

“Hidden up darkened sleeves” just …. I don’t know Ivor. I guess that’s what prompted such a visual for me. Horrors.

I’m not sure either Colleen… I don’t why I feel so deeply about things…. I’m emotional, ..I cry…. And then I write down those feelings……

This poem is brilliant Ivor, the sanctimonious hypocrites outlaw contraception and homosexuality while they rape children!
