Afterlife

Dear readers, as most of you might know , I’m in hospital, and now my energy levels are low, so there’ll be no new poems for a while. I’ll post a few of my older poems, today’s is “Afterlife” originally written July 2012.

Why am I so adamant that I need to fight

Feeling this chasm of pain every night

Why am I so adolescent about my plight

Longing for the love, the affection, of no-one in sight

Why am I so uncertain within myself

Desiring relief and a remedy for my health

Why am I so sorry for my lost time on the shelf

Pining after my souls drowned wealth

Why am I still shaken, afraid of life

Thinking there’s only loneliness without my wife

Why am I still heartsick, pierced like a knife

Wondering if there’ll ever be anymore afterlife

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

      1. “Villanelle For Our Time”

From bitter searching of the heart,
Quickened with passion and with pain
We rise to play a greater part.
This is the faith from which we start:
        Men shall know commonwealth again
From bitter searching of the heart.
We loved the easy and the smart,
But now, with keener hand and brain,
We rise to play a greater part.
        The lesser loyalties depart,
And neither race nor creed remain
From bitter searching of the heart.
Not steering by the venal chart
That tricked the mass for private gain,
We rise to play a greater part.
        Reshaping narrow law and art
Whose symbols are the millions slain,
From bitter searching of the heart
We rise to play a greater part.

  1. You have amassed a lot of friends through this medium who love you and your poetry. Now you have to be a friend to yourself and sit and get better. We…I…only want the best for you. And the world is bigger than either of our blogs. Take each day and make it better. We’re not going anywhere.

      1. and you will rise again to play a greater part .. and maybe we need to start a campaign against these super nasty bugs the hospitals are killing us off with at a far faster rate than war and motor vehicle accidents combined!

  2. Aw. 😦 You know you have our prayers, thoughts, and best wishes to get well and stay well, Ivor. I was basically going to say what Claudia already said. Please rest and don’t worry about blogging. We will keep the WP-homefires burning until you return. πŸ™‚ We’ll all still be here. πŸ™‚
But, if blogging a bit helps you feel better emotionally…then keep puttin’ up some of your vintage poems and we will keep checkin’ in on you. πŸ™‚
    (((HUGS))) and ❀ and πŸ™‚ !!!
