A Silent Visitor

You’re a friend, you don’t have to phone me

You’re a friend, you don’t have to visit me

You’re a friend, no need to enlist me

You’re a friend, you’ll be the last one I’ll see

Your honesty is an eternal friend to me

Your finality will be a truthful friend to me

No need for your secret messages

No need for your silent thoughts

All I need, is to share the sun

All I need, is to share the rain

Share the moon, and the universe’s pond

Share the spoon that feeds my star beyond

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. Thank you Kate, if you replace “You’re a friend” with “Death” you’ll understand the poem better. I’m treating death as a friend, and not something to be afraid of. πŸ˜ŠπŸ€”πŸ€—

      1. No I don’t know anymore, I’ve come to realisation over the years, that there is always death “Around The Corner” and it’s all part of life, which I am still trying to enjoy. I got my Philadelphian trip at the end of April and the hopefully off to Canada in 2000, Vancouver/Calgary to see my other cousins !! xx

    1. Thanks Laleh, and you could try a Qantas different slant by replacing “You’re a friend” with the the word “Death” and you’ll see what I was trying to say, I’m treating death in a friendly way πŸ€”πŸ˜Š

  1. What a magnificent poem, especially when we take the words at Face value and don’t replace the warmth of the word Friend with the icy cold word death.

Talking of death in this way almost signifies an inner depression, which is perfectly understandable. I cannot think of death as a friend except as the final gesture to take away the suffering.

    1. Well said Sue, and I suppose I’ve been a bit down lately, life has been tough for me , but I’m battling on, lot’s of thinking time, and as I always say, my words do come from within, and it always feels good for me to throw my thoughts out there. xx

      1. Absolutely Ivor. Your poetry is the perfect way to release your thoughts and inner feelings.

You have had a long, debilitating and worrying illness, it is little wonder that you are feeling down. You will get better Ivor and will soon be back to good health both in mind and body. xx πŸ™‚

  2. This friend sits with many…yes?

Your thoughts and feelings during all of these health struggles come to visit with this friend. And out come these fascinations.

No harm in telling this friend you are not in a hurry!!
