Sleepless Thoughts

My sleepless thoughts are being unkind

I’ve repetitive words on my mind

My memories of the past

Are becoming faded

My empty hands were once full

Of memories and rhymes

My imagination for the future

Is becoming jaded

My fixated hands are now full

Of old expectations and unused time

Maybe these words will clear my mind

Help me think about what I may find

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. I see the early night was short-lived. Sometimes you just need to write it down. I like the poem.
A question for you – earlier I spoke about a time machine, which way do you want to travel? Say the first thing that comes into your head please.

      1. That’s interesting, I expected you to say go back. Good answer Ivor – take a prize from the top shelf! Sounds like you’re feeling more positive than you thought.

I feel for you during your current situation, it must be really frustrating, and I imagine it becomes harder when you live alone. Could you invite a couple of friends around for a beer or two? Could be good therapy. πŸ™‚

  2. We should have a virtual party for New Year Ivor. We’ll all come along, share some food, and a small libation, but we won’t stay too long, so you can get an early night to aid in your recovery to full Ivor. Hugs and best wishes.

  3. Ivor it’s taking me late into the day to get to the posts….I feel like I missed out on this conversation. As I am winding down the day your morn will be breaking. You have some lines here that keep rebounding around in my head. The first two grab me immediately. It’s like you’re speaking to anxiety …. I have terrible night time anxiety. The thoughts just fire away at will. I hope all of the support here is helpful. Such genuine compassion and concern. I add mine to the fold. ❀

    1. Oh Colleen, thank you for your kind words, and yes it was a restless night, with thoughts boundless, however I did manage to get some solid sleep and I’m feeling ok today. xx

      1. A poem I’m publishing later
        Today Brings Tomorrow

        A new day has arisen
        A new year’s ahead
        A new beginning is born

Life may turn for the worse
        Gathering mildew and moss
Or life could improve to be betterer
Accruing love letters and joining the jet-setters
I’ve weeks to grow healthier and stronger
I’ve months before my dream becomes a reality
