A Tree To Breathe And See

Dig and smash

Turn-over and break

Do the digging again

More bashing and crashing

Split up the lumps

Turn-over and over

Beat the hard pieces finer

Crush the broken dirt, if you must

Water the soil, and then feed

Rotate again, and again

Until the patch is pliable and moist

Come back tomorrow

Or even the next day, on trust

The garden spot is ready

For a tree to be planted

A gift to mother nature’s life

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Wonderful, Ivor! ๐Ÿ™‚
I love gardening! I love when new plants and trees are planted! I get so excited! ๐Ÿ™‚
And your poem makes me think that we-human-beans are like plants/trees…we need watering, tender-loving-care, sunshine, pruning, weeding, ETC! And then we can grown and blossom and bring joy to the world! ๐Ÿ™‚
The lyrics to “Flowers in December” always makes me melancholy…but her voice and the tune make me feel warm and hopeful. If that makes any sense at all. HA!

    PS…How are you feeling today?!

    1. The poem I wrote when I got home today after a lovely luncheon with the “crew” (Carole friends), and Lyn was explaining to Maree about planting trees, and how to prepare the group. “Dig and smash” were her exact words !!

Well, Lyn is right! Gotta’ prepare the soil!
And I think sometimes “dig and smash” helps us human-beans learn lessons! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜€

      1. I’ve read a few of your posts Rajani. and I’m 67 years old, i’m alone now, and I’ve lived a tough life, and I like to write poems. I write about real life and the living emotions we go through and how the real world and environment effects us all, and I’d like to see all writers have a voice and speak up to help our ailing planet.

    1. You would’ve enjoyed, Lyn’s story of how to “dig and smash”, at our luncheon yesterday, in the middle of the dining-room, animatedly showing us all how to shovel to dirt and turn it over and give it a smash and bash… I couldn’t stop laughing.
