Stone Arches, High In The Sky

Written in response to Helene’s, What do You See,  Photo prompt March 26 to April 1, 2019. And I would also like to thank Claudia, of, “Humoring The Goddess”, and her latest article, for also inspiring me to write this post about the fascinating properties of rocks !!, please click >>Here

Sunday Evening Art Gallery — Carl Peverall

The photos in my post here, are of Carl Peverall’s stone and rock sculptures, copied from Claudia’s article today….. I’m sure she won’t mind ??

Stone Arches, High In The Sky

Sitting on this old cemetery bench

Judiciously carved from granite

I’m pondering, like Rodin’s Thinker

Observing God’s arches high in the sky

Supported by tall Gothic columns

Laboriously sculptured stone

Etched by annual rain

Burnt under the ancient sun

Shaped by the winds of time

Dully hued, eleven shades of grey

Smooth rocks from past aeon’s

Millenniums cast in aged sand-stone

History encrusted surfaces

Pillars of society, silently solidified

Entombed witnesses of the painful years

The cold graveyard’s, living pyramids

Monuments to new generations

Life’s statues of our lost souls

Immortality and finality achieved

Beyond a shadow of doubt

Their stoic presence

An eternal epitaph

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. I was in a muddled with the finish, but I think it turned out OK. I was trying to tie the Gothic appearance of tall old churches together with the ancient feel of stone and rocks

  1. Monuments to new generations – i love this line Ivor, what was sadness to one generation acts as reminder to the next and so many other contrasting thoughts. there is a beautiful reverence in your writing of this one, like palms in supplication

    1. Thank you Gina, spiritually I felt a connection between the Gothic stone arches and the incredible stone sculptures of Carl Peverall. Helen’s photo prompt and Claudia’s wonderful article, both captured my imagination. And I tied it all in together, and my conclusion ended up being ok.

  2. THIS is what I love about creativity. About art in all its forms. I was so inspired by this artist I had to share, which in turn inspired you, another artist, to write a poem. You do honor to both of us. Your poem is solid and inspirational. I love it! I hope others are inspired to make their own art from their surroundings.

    1. Thank you Claudia, yes the stone sculptures were truly amazing, and I started writing more poem before I saw Helen’s photo prompt, and that’s when I came up with the idea of tieing the two together. Thank you again for your wonderful article xx😊💡😃💕
