An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
My Music, This Morning
To my fabulous cousins in Philadelphia (and young Kerri)…. three songs of the ages, by the fantastic Tom Waits, and I think ” Waltzing Matilda” was one of Aunty Madge’s fav’s ….
I hope you all enjoy my song choices this morning, with a tear or two (I am too) see you ‘mob’ soon, April 29th !!! ((Hugs and Kisses, coming your way)) ……..
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

I’m actually slowing down naturally, I’ve been keeping a hectic pace for six months, all part of pushing myself to rehab my damaged senses, of comprehension of understanding what I was reading and reading… nothing was coming easy, but now things are stablizing for me and my thought processes are becoming clearer, without going over my readings and writings again and again…. the relearning of understanding, what once very easy for me, was very frustrating….. .. ……
I’m really sorry to hear that Ivor, I had no idea that you were doing it so tough. Ease up now and get into a more relaxed flow … you’ve improved greatly. Now learn to chill ❤
Thanks Kate, it’s taken a while but I’m finally starting to feel like a normal Ivor….. frustration tears have stopped flowig… just in time,… New York here I come …..xxx
Oh don’t worry,I’m sure to cry when I meet cousins, and especially my ‘niece’ Kerri, we have a very close bond….. And her blog motto says it all… “don’t let the world bring you down” , “overcoming obstacles is not impossible”… from a young lady (32) who’s spent her life in a wheelchair,…. we are good for each other…. xx
so healing for both of you!
Watched an interview last night with a lucious young lady who was both deaf and blind … her resilience, beauty, humour and intelligence shone through 🙂 I often think when one thing is taken other deeper qualities become enhanced!
exactly and I’m so pleased that she has a full time interpreter … didn’t happen in the old days! I used to play scrabble with a man who was deaf dumb and blind, think about that 😎
A little on the lighter side Ivor I had a country vinyl session yesterday Mel Tillis, Roy Drusky, Sonny James and more sometimes its great just to wallow.
Oh there shall be lots of hugs and kisses !!!
I’ve just been over to your …. Love it !!…
I’ve been busy today, O.T this morning, and my writer’s group this afternoon… And now I’m reciting to my mirror, getting ready for the open mike poetry reading tonight…. ..All go, go !! xxx
There will be some poems, but I’ll write more when I get back home from the USA
The open mike night was fabulous, I didn’t expect so many people… Wow
I read well, nice and clear, I surprised myself, I was shaking a bit afterwards, and received a great round of applause
Haha, I had to be help off the stage, the make–shift step was too steep for me..
I was the oldest poetry reader there 😎😃🤗
Yes, I understand. You need to focus on enjoying your family and the sights you see and experience! Maybe jot down notes or phrases that come to mind and they will become poems! 🙂
OH!!! and YAY!!! I’m so so so glad poetry mic night went well! I’m so proud of you for participating! 🙂 Now I’m all smiley and teary-eyed! Joy-tears! 🙂
It’s the morning after my poetry night and I’m feeling happy and proud. It was such a big step forward for me, one giant leap for my overall confidence, and my unknown ability to cope with the crowd, and socialise amongst all the people, went way passed what I thought was possible at this stage of my recovery.. A wonderful piece of experience for my trip away 😊🎤((hugs))
