Hot Cross Buns And Chocolates

The poem here, is my attempt to write an abecedarian poem – a poem in which the word choice follows the words/order of the alphabet.

Hot Cross Buns And Chocolates

America, here I come, ready or not

Beyond my bed-zoned borders

Chasing those forgotten horizons

Dreams are finally blossoming

Easter treats are tucked in my pockets

Fancy editions of my poems, are packed in the case

Giant airports and planes abound

Hot cross buns, and more chocolates are eaten

Inspiring my week’s holiday mood

Jet engines soaring  aloft

Kidnapping me by default

Lawyers left floundering

My medical records lost in transit

Naughty nightingales, again covering for me

Opening my doorways, to the promised land

Passing high above the  melody, at heaven’s archway

Quarantine played, Leonard’s Tower Of Song

Rumblings, I hear from a distant Bensalem yard

Spiritual chants, from my family circle

Telepathic messages, humming on a magic carpet ride

Unbroken my promise, now to be honoured

Vikings and villains to be avoided

Weapons disguised, under the statues torch of liberty

Xylophones I hear, playing on the streets of New York

Young ladies are dancing to my tune, Hallelujah

Zero-ground, salutes me there, staying upside down

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Hello dear Ivor! What a splendid poem! To do the entire alphabet is truly a feat! I’ve been thinking of you this past week and sending hugs across the seas. I haven’t commented much but have read much. Hoping you are ready for your big trip…

    1. G’day Irma, Thanks for the lovely comments. And yes it was a fun to write this sort of poem….
I’m the same as you, I’ve not been reading nor commenting lately….. just so busy preparing myself for my big trip, and also got some submissions to here, for the Geelong Writers 2019 Anthology,, before I leave on Wednesday…. Time seems to be moving too fast for me…..
And I’ve been spring cleaning my house and tidying my courtyard garden. I’m going to be away for nearly 5 weeks, and I wanted to come home to a clean tidy house. So I could just crash for a few day and not worry…..
Yes, I’m very ready !! and Thoroughly excited and looking forward to flying out Wednesday morning.. ((Hugs))

      1. Oh Ivor! You must be on your way or safely landed at your destination by the time you read this. Wishing you safe travels and good responses from your submissions. I am going to be reading WP tonight and will look for updates on your blog. ❤️❤️

      2. Yes, I am on American /New York time now !! My first daytime here, 9.00pm and I’m worn out , off to sleep soon. I did write 3 poems during the flight, 20 hours in the air, so I plenty of time to right a few lines. I’ll post the 3rd later tonight. Thank you for following my progress here. 😁☺️

    1. What a glorious poem Kate, spot on and so very clever of you. Sorry I can’t say/stay much more, I’ve been to another Bon voyage party tonight, my friends are being extra kind and supportive, they have seen my journey up close and personal. It was a fabulous night. 😂😂😭
