Hallelujah, A Song He Played For Me (Thanks Terry)
I’m relaxing here in the city square
Enjoying the simple things in life
Eating fresh fruit for lunch
Feeding the local seagulls
Watching people, passing by, going to and fro
Not everyone is stopping to see the show
Listening to my friend playing the blues
At this chilly outdoor venue
There’s others too, lazing on the wet ground
Soaking up his musical sounds
Guitar strumming, and a loud tenor voice
He’s singing Leonard’s Hallelujah, my choice
I’m emotional, but that’s me
Resting here under a winter tree
Gentle drops of rain, drizzle upon the calm
But that doesn’t dampen his enthusiasm or charm
Syd and Shirley seagull stand entranced
And the young ones are starting to dance
Ivor Steven (c) June 2019
how wonderful

I love the blues, too. Such a great poem, Ivor and homage, Ivor. Totally love the seagull imagery. ^_^
Your friend Terry is really good. His guitar work is so clear and flawless. I like his voice too. He reminds me a bit of Richard Thompson. Thanks for sharing him. Hallelujah is a beautiful song — great choice! ♥.

Even at 73 his voice is strong, and his rendition of Hallelujah was truly moving. 💙🤗👏

That sounds like a very pleasant afternoon.
Out of interest can I ask, is the word Mall generally used by Australians? I’d understood you used the phrase shopping centre like we do over here.

I was going to say City Square/or green, but they didn’t seem to fit, I just writes what suits/fits, however now i’m thinking of changing “mall’ to ‘square’

Oh I see, so it’s not an indoor complex that we call a shopping centre and the Americans call a Mall.
One of my blogging friends who is not American insists on using American terms for everything just so they will understand. I can’t do that because that would be similar losing my identity!

Yes, I try to use Australian terms as much as possible, those Americans need educating about the rest of the world outside their boundaries

Sounds like a perfect day, Ivor. We saw a short story on Current Affair the other night about the seamier side of Geelong. I’m sure I don’t know why it is that some people just have the urge to behave so feral. I hope your neighbourhood is safe. The story was from the shopping precinct.

I love the way Leonard Cohen sings Hallelujah and all of his other works.
Gone to soon in my book … such a nice way to spend an afternoon.
