Back To Her Man

My poem here was entirely inspired by Michnavs, and her poem and article from her post today…

“My Saga Continuous”

“My Saga on my awareness campaign against Violence continuous as i explore the possible reasons why abused women chose to stay in an abusive relationship.”

Back To Her Man

She goes back to her man

A female ghost, in no-man’s land

When he angrily points to her wedding band

How many broken promises, she cannot understand?

She goes back to her man

What is the colour of his bruised hand

When he rips off her headband

How many times will she feel his fistful of sand?

She goes back to her man

What is that name for his brand

When he stomps her armband

How many years before she’s able to make a stand?

She goes back to her man

What is the origin of his shameless land?

When he demands her waistband

How many decades before he’s banned?

She goes back to her man

What happens to her life unplanned

When his every word is a command

How will she survive the witness stand

She goes back to her man

Abandoned, now in shadow-land

Living is hell, after his reprimand

He is not worthy, nor is he grand

She goes back to her man!

Apologies to Damien Rice, for using his lovely song here. The song title has the only resemblance to my poem, his beautiful lyrics, clearly have nothing to do with my poem.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Thank you Ivor for the shout out..and thank you for this lovely poem..
It is with the hope that i may create awareness on the issue of abuse and violence and provide voice to the ones who cannot speak; little did i realize that my work would also have an impact to some poets like you and share a piece of their hearts on this matter…

    1. Yes, Mich, I’m more than than pleased to help out in raising awareness about this important issue. And I’m very pleased my poem adequately reflects the situation. It was quick single write for me, but I felt strongly about the subject and my words flowed instantly and meaningfully. Thank you for stirring my psyche and my heart 😊♥️on this matter ♥️🤗

  2. A powerful, poignant poem, Ivor! Thank you for writing it and sharing it.
I’ve know too many women (several close friends) who stayed too long. 😦 Each had reasons why. They had other female friends who said “Leave him! Now!” but it wasn’t that simple sometimes. And many of their female friends pulled away from them. 😦
I remained their friend and said, “I’m here to help. When you’re ready to leave I’ll help. In the meantime I’m here for you. You are not alone.”
PS…I responded to your comment on my post. Please find it and read it. 🙂 🙂 🙂

    1. I’ll go over and have a look Carolyn…
It was a difficult subject for me to write about…. my sister’s previous marriage wasn’t a pleasant situation, so I was emotional about it all……..

      1. I went over to your friends site (michnavs) and left a comment.
Right now my comment is “in moderation”, but she will find it. 🙂

I’m sorry to hear about your sister. 😦 Yes, too many have been touched by violence and abuse. 😦 That you care is so important, especially to your sister.
        More (((HUGS)))

      1. “Cry On me”

        “Cry me fairytale
        A fable that’s true
        Cry me a storm
        And fill our buckets
        with watery glee
        Cry me a storm
        and fill our hearts
        with liquid joy”……….
