Not Here Nor There

I’m feeling a bit older this morning after last night’s party!! , so here’s an older poem I’m reposting…

Not Here Nor There

My time is slowly passing.

Age is creeping, not lasting.

I’m frail and growing older.

My body shivers when it’s colder.

And sweats like hell, in the heat.

My mind is feeble and weak.

I don’t seem to remember.

Whether it’s March, April, or September.

Here I sit, what am I doing.

There I look, where am I going.

There I ask, what’s for tea my dear.

Oh, I forgot, she’s not here.

Well best I retire to bed.

And wrest this weary head.

Under a linen sheet, like a hood.

Laying here, on this piece of wood.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Very sad, but very therapeutic. I hope you are not sad all the time. Although no one can ever fill that hole in your heart. Thank you for sparking my own memories.

    1. Written ages ago Claudia, haha, I’ve outlived those times, and now emotionally quite sound, and physically healthy…… I think…… the poem’s from the years after my Stroke and the final 10 your I had Carole with me …..

      1. Woot woot! I’m happy to hear that! Now and then I come across poetry or stories that are just really sad. Good –but sad. And it makes me wonder. I have those poems too ..even a short story about a farmers last day…reminiscent of my dad who passed away. I hate/love those creative bits, you know?

    1. I’m your regular emotional bloke, but that’s how life was back then, Carole was suffering and alive, and was alive and sharing her suffering, but we both survived, her in spirit and I in body, and I’m ok now……

    1. I’m glad you found me, I’ve only been blogging for 7 weeks, and still finding my way. Not many people have discovered my earlier posts, definitely some of my fav’s. May I suggest go back to June 7th on my site…. Liquid Joy, Where’s That dream, Haven’t Seen You For A while(especially), and “Home” a poem I wrote to honour Leonard Cohen, on the day I heard of his passing, and thoroughly influenced by his sublime poem/song “Going Home”, hope you enjoy

  2. I liked this. I look for your posts, but I must have missed this one. You always write from the heart, and your wife must have been a wonderful person. I’m glad you’re doing better, physically and emotionally. As a matter of fact, you’re probably as healthy as a horse, strong as an ox, and able to drink your fair share of pots, and put someone like me under the table.

    1. Not quite as strong as an Ox, more like a Koala. I know you don’t drink much, so I’d be kind to you and have 6 pots to your 1. And tonight I’ll have a few extra ones at the pub, me the birthday boy (66)

  3. Your emotions are intense, yet beautiful, in this poem, Ivor. We understand and we can relate.
You are just growing more well-seasoned! Beautiful, wise, full-hearted, wonderful! πŸ™‚ And you are not walking the road of life alone! πŸ™‚
That version of that song is my favourite one!
    HUGS!!! πŸ™‚
