Tanka: Moon Tree

No! Don’t go up there

The old tree house is haunted

Full moon night, glares

Children’s Halloween costumes

Knock! Knock! Scary pranks, for treats

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. I love your Halloween Tanka. You did great! Did you find it easier or harder than a Haiku?
I Counted 30 syllables not 31. The third line has four not five.
I can’t talk with my skill as a poet, as you can testify to. So, I dread to think what I would have managed! 👻👻🙂

    1. Hi Sue, actually I enjoy the Tanka format, maybe slightly more difficult… Oh my computer syllable counter says 5 for the third line… and that is what I go by… 🤔🤔🤗
I hope you liked the song, Poet’s of The Fall, are a Finnish band, xx

      1. Computers don’t always get things right and it sounds like your computer misread the word glares. It was still a great Tanka, and like I said, it’s far better than I could have managed 🙂
