The Gift

Greed is a hearts bad seed

Encouraging an unnatural need

‘Twas my psyches, unrequited branch

That I left at the devils ranch

Now, there’s no more regrets for me

I’m almost home, I’m almost free

Tomorrow I’ll climb, another tree

With the gift of nature, we flew, we dared

And life’s promises and dreams, went undeclared

Upon her final Autumn, a tapestry of golden threads

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. Thank you Rachel, I was really struggling with the last stanza, and it’s lovely to know that the wording ended up ok. Originally the piece is a collection of different comments I’ve made on other blog posts. And then I edit/restructure them into poem…. I enjoy this sort of process, I find it a challenge to make a sensible poem out my jumbled comments /thoughts 💭😉💙🌏

  1. What a beautiful poem, Ivor, filled with emotions!
Sometimes we only look at the backside of the tapestries and see the knots, jumbled threads (the chaos and struggles of life), but please keep looking at the front of your tapestries (yours and the one you and Carole shared/wove together! 🙂 ) because they are so beautiful and so valuable! 🙂
Life is a gift and you are not only grateful, you are sharing that gift with others! 🙂
    HUGS!!! 🙂

      1. You’re welcome!
Please try to rest when you can! I know that it’s difficult as life is busy and keeps flowing.
I hope you CAN find the right balance. I need to do that, too.
I get a reprieve until March, with my doc appointments, if all continues going as is. So I am VERY grateful for that! 🙂
OH! and I have two more appointments with my oncologist in 2020. If those go well, I will be at the 5 year mark next Sept! It will be a HUGE reason to celebrate! 🙂
        HUGS!!! 🙂

    1. You’ve probably got it right Mich, yes three layers or pieces of my life, the typical misguided youth growing up…. the middle stanza I’m beginning finality (as we do at my age)…… and the last stanza, it’s always dreams about Carole (she passed in the Autumn)

      1. Oh no, I didn’t explain that too well….. It’s my turn on the roster this month, for the Promote Yourself Mondays segment of the magazine/site..
It’s a team of writers of 15, under the banner of Go Dog Go Cafe, where we encourage all types of writers to post their articles on our magazine/site…. basically a place for writers to meet other writers…..

      1. Yes, it was a matter of about time. It’s all very annoying. I just can’t do anything for more than 15 minutes, then I have to take a rest… I’m laying down on the lounge at the moment.. 🛏️💙🌏
