Sit yourself at the round table
Cease your corporate bonding and bowing
Be good Leaders and stop the bleeding
What if you’re wrong?
What if we are right?
Have you delved into your conscience?
Have you felt your own heart beating?
Have you noticed the populace is pleading?
Do you understand our world’s environmental language?
Reject the greed, open up your minds and repair the damage
Do not leave the table
Do not wait until tomorrow
Answer the reality question
What if you’re wrong?

“What If I’m Wrong”, Lyrics, by Damien Rice
Until tomorrow’s in the past
Because I have torn apart what’s beautiful
To prove that nothing lasts I have stayed locked behind these doors
To show there’s no way out
I got lost within the space between
The question and the doubt
I have built a wall between
What I believed and what is true
I have sacrificed the love I had
For power over you
I have convicted those who disagree
And walked over the weak
I have placed a gun within the mouth
Of those who dared to speak
And on an ordinary day
In an ordinary way
I have crushed the minds of children
With extraordinary shame
And I have carried on this war
Though no one wins an endless fight
I have claimed that God has guided me
And killed to prove I’m right
What if I’m wrong
What if I’m wrong
What if I’m wrong
What if I’m wrong
Is this soul worth saving at all?
Cause if I lose my wings then surely I must fall
And the gods prayed to the gods they made
We could wrestle with tomorrow
until tomorrow’s in the past
We could tear apart what’s beautiful
To prove that nothing lasts
We could stay locked behind the doors
To show there’s no way out
We could get lost within the space between
The question and the doubt
But what if we’re wrong?
Thought provoking! π

Oh Sue, that’s the idea…. they start thinking, rather greedily taking and lowly sinking……

If only everyone had the ability for self-reflection! Your inspiring poem complements Damien Riceβs lyrics. πΆπ΅

It’s one my few poems that I wrote to suit the song… I usually write my poem, then find a song which suits it….. But this time, I was playing Damien’s song last night, and his words overwhelmed my thoughts…… definitely a thought provoking and powerful song Rose…..

I think everyone should always entertain the thought that they might be wrong about everything. The world would be a better place. Think of all the pointless theological wars that could be prevented!

Thank you Maranda, yes it’s about time governments admit that they are wrong sometimes and stop being so pious

A question we must all ask ourselves many times in this life, about many things. Always important to consider both sides of an issue.
Thank you for the powerful timely important poem, Ivor!
I wish our leaders could seriously consider that question and make adjustments. An apology would probably be too much to ask for. Not sure most of them know how to apologize for anything. π¦ But, if they would just do the right things, we’d be grateful.

Hi Dear Carolyn, I’m outside under my verandah, I can’t watch the news without crying. I’m totally overwhelmed… the effects of the bushfires have wearing my heart and soul out….. Our town spent another day blanketed by thick smoke.. And fires are 400 miles away… An estimated HALF BILLION Animals have perished,
They didn’t make it down the ridges…. ππ’ππππ

I’m so sorry, Ivor. π¦
We had fires the summer before last and just across the highway they evacuated people in our town. Fortunately the fire didn’t cross the highway so we didn’t have to evacuate our home. But we had to smell, see, and breath in the smoke for too long. π¦

I feel I must keep voicing our opinions, and every word we write helps, every drop in the river, eventually gets to the ocean… every ripple on the lake puts a line on the shore…….xxxx
