A Rapunzel Tomato Tower

A Rapunzel Tomato Tower

The morning autumn dew

settles upon your evolving view

climbing tall and reaching up high

your leaves are almost touching the sky

protecting the day lily now replete

and the ruby geranium at your feet

your large groups of yellow flowers

producing bunches of fruit on your Rapunzel tower

growing into red grape-like flights

delicious, mouth watering bites

bunches of cherry tomato eats

the season’s meal-time treats

“Soon We’ll Be Found”, Lyrics by, Sia.

Come along it is the break of day
Surely now, you’ll have some things to say
It’s not the time for telling tales on meSo come along, it won’t be long
‘Til we return happy
Shut your eyes, there are no lies
In this world we call sleep
Let’s desert this day of hurt
Tomorrow we’ll be free

Let’s not fight I’m tired can’t we just sleep tonight?
Turn away it’s just there’s nothing left here to say
Turn around I know we’re lost but soon we’ll be found

Well it’s been rough but we’ll be just fine
We’ll work it out yeah we’ll survive
You mustn’t let a few bad times dictate

So come along, it won’t be long
‘Til we return happy
Shut your eyes, there are no lies
In this world we call sleep
Let’s desert this day of hurt
Tomorrow we’ll be free

Let’s not fight I’m tired can’t we just sleep tonight?
Turn away it’s just there’s nothing left here to say
Turn around I know we’re lost but soon we’ll be found

Let’s not fight I’m tired can’t we just sleep tonight?
Don’t turn away it’s just there’s nothing left here to say
Turn around I know we’re lost but soon we’ll be found

Let’s not fight I’m tired can’t we just sleep tonight?
Turn away it’s just there’s nothing left here to say
Turn around I know we’re lost but soon we’ll be found

I know we’re lost but soon we’ll be found [3x]

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Beautifullly written, Ivor. I love the rhymes of your poem. They do not sound artificial at all, but like a waterfall, a natural, beautiful and authentic cascading of thoughts and feelings. A very sensual poem where the taste of cherry tomatoes is also involved, so well expressed. The Rapunzel tower is a perfect metaphor for your tomato plant. I have to read your piece again and again. This is one of those poems that are ideal to be read at an open mic.

I have also enjoyed the pictures of the tomato tower and Sia’s song with her great voice and performance. Interesting colored hands and movements encompassing her lyrics.

Thank you for sharing so much beauty and truth! πŸ’•

    1. Thank you dear Marta for your thoughtful and engaging comments……. The climbing tomato bush, is actually called a Rapunzel Tomato, because it grows tall, and fruits hang down in grape like tresses…it’s a very impressive plant, and has grown higher than my spouting……
And I love going to my open mic nights, but we usually have a set theme to write too !!
I only that Sia video this morning, after much searching…. I knew of the song and those beautifully expressive movements, but it was hard to find clip of good quality…. I was happy with this one, a truly well sung version, with all the delightful hand movements I’d seen somewhere before….. πŸŒπŸ’™

    1. Thank you Tanya, the Rapunzel is climbing tall type bush that is trained/tied to a high trellis,… but it’s grown 3ft taller than expected…. the process has been a fascinating one for me… πŸŒ±πŸ…
