An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
Decades of Storms
It’s time for “Go Dog Go Cafe’s” Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge. Today’s prompt: “Let there be storms”. And here is my little response to the prompt….
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Indeed Ivor….after all the storms, you remain the pilot.
I have followed you for a while now and i can see your resilience and love are constant..i believe that is the reason why you always made it out perefectly well..
Exercise group this morning…soon… followed by a coffee and cake……some blogging this afternoon… then maybe a couple of submissions, although I find them tedious, but necessary
Haha… hardly any blogging done, and no submissions !!…got busy doing plumbing on my own little house…. My cousin Maureen(Philadelphia) is coming to stay in April, and if I can organise my finances I’ll go to Tasmania with her over Easter….. as well….
Am I still the pilot? What a wonderful question. We all like to think we steer our own ship. Most times we do. Through sleet and snow and thunderstorms we keep hold of the wheel. It’s just that now and then something greater, stronger than us take the wheel. But we are true believers — we take back the steering wheel and get everything back on track. You make a solid pilot, my friend.
Oh Claudia thank you for wondrous summation of my words ,and they’re exactly the way my thoughts were when I wrote this little piece…. but as you have felt… there’s a lot of meaning behind these few short lines….. 💙😉🤔
Life is a mixture of good-weather-days and stormy-days….both weather-wise and emotionally.
Yes, you are the pilot…a very good, experienced pilot with a huge heart! 🙂 Keep soaring, Ivor! You not only survive…you thrive! 🙂
HUGS!!! 🙂
PS…I always love listening to Xavier! 🙂
Every time Xavier’s back in Geelong, Igo to his Concerts,….
And it’s good to know I’m still the pilot, after my somewhat stormy and dreamy night’s…. although they don’t happen very often these days……😎💙💦
Am I still the pilot? Love that.
I sometimes view myself as the co-pilot, sometimes I’m allowed to steer my boat, but never am I in full control.
Brilliant poem, Ivor. 🙂
Thank you Rachel, … sometimes, but not often these days, I wake startled from a dark dream, and for me, the morning sunlight is my confidant and friend…..🖤😎

Yep, for publishing, in magazines, I’m yet to submit for a book, but I suppose I’ve over 800 poems to choose from

Facing these challenges in our lives head on instead of trying to escape, we grow stronger…

Ivor, I particularly love the final stanza. “Vacate the dark” “remain the pilot”. Beautiful.
