What? Escalation Again

This weekend “The Weekly Prompt” challenge is slightly different from the norm; They have chosen a question, and the question is ‘What is it?‘ Please go and check out their fabulous site by clicking >>HERE…. Above, in the Feature Image, is my photo of “What is it?” , and below is my poem about the object in the photo ??

What? Escalation Again

Is this the germ?

That mysterious virus

Or maybe the cure

Our miracle antibiotic

Why profoundly round?

A slippery pill of renown

Why be so colourful?

The answers a rainbow, upside down

Red’s for blood

Yellow’s our solar sun

Blue for the ocean that surrounds

What about the black crosses?

Sorry, the gravestones

Representing the losses

An insightful imagination

Of a sixteen year-old

During the cold-war escalation

His world then, was young and bold

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Oh, I do like this poem. I spent ages looking at the picture, my first thought was that it was a bowling ball, but there are no holes! Then I changed it to a cricket ball and wondered if it was too flat, that took me on another journey in my head wondering what kind of game could be played with a flat cricket ball!
Nice one, Ivor 🙂 and thank you for taking part in our challenge .

    1. I’m pleased the object intrigues you… It’s a copper fruit bowl, that has an enamel glazed design….. hand crafted by Ivor 53 years ago.. and my poem is exactly what the artwork was about… If you turn it upside down, the colour patterns represent Neuclar bombs… 🤔

  2. OH!!! Perfect poem for your photo of the mysterious item! 🙂
Your artistic bowl is beautiful and I love the bold colors and symbols! Thank you for sharing it with us, Ivor! 🙂
Love the Dylan song. The messages of his songs are still powerful and important today.

    1. Yes Bob’s words are still so relevant today….
I can’t believe my bowl is 53 years old.. and in pristine condition…
If you turn the picture on the bowl around, it represents the Atomic Bomb clouds… from my memories of the cold-war way back then…. Yes I was even thinking of our world in those.. 💙🌏🗺️
