An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
A Dragonfly Lives Six Months
The Weekend Challenge from Weekly Prompts is ‘Ladders.‘ please go over and visit the “Weekly Prompts” fabulous site by clicking >>HERE. Today my poem is about the view I see from the top of my ladder….
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Ivor, I think this phrase “Landing awkwardly on his side , Powerless I gazed, mortified” felt powerful. The helplessness of it….was felt. Such prose !!!
I am taken aback. I suppose that’s a good thing. That’s what pure poetry does to me. But I feel so bad for the dragonfly. I know it comes to all of us, but … Now you have to write a poem about a brand new baby dragonfly!
Aw. 😦 You really stirred our emotions with this one, Ivor.
I always feel so honored when I see a dragonfly! They amaze me! And they are so beautiful…with their big eyes, and delicate iridescent wings. 🙂
Beautifully written poem! Wonderful subject!
(((HUGS)))
I thought I was cramming too much into my short poem….
It’s a comment about our situation at the moment, and maybe how they say it’ll last six months, ironically, the life span of a dragonfly, and tried to tie it together with the death of my the little dragonfly… I’m not sure it worked… 😉🤔

The helplessness on the last line was delivered in a very powerful punch line Ivor.

this works very well Ivor … we have a longer life and many more opportunities than a dragonfly! But they are such majestic creatures, so beautiful 🙂
