A Dragonfly Lives Six Months

The Weekend Challenge from Weekly Prompts is  Ladders.‘ please go over and visit the  “Weekly Prompts” fabulous site by clicking >>HERE. Today my poem is about the view I see from the top of my ladder….

A Dragonfly Lives Six Months

From atop of my wooden ladder

I saw crowds growing madder

Beyond the world’s yellowing sky

I heard a murmuring dragonfly

Cry and fall off his rainbow slide

Landing awkwardly on his side

Powerless I gazed, mortified

As one of nature’s angels, slowly died

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Aw. 😦 You really stirred our emotions with this one, Ivor.
I always feel so honored when I see a dragonfly! They amaze me! And they are so beautiful…with their big eyes, and delicate iridescent wings. 🙂
    Beautifully written poem! Wonderful subject!

    1. I thought I was cramming too much into my short poem….
It’s a comment about our situation at the moment, and maybe how they say it’ll last six months, ironically, the life span of a dragonfly, and tried to tie it together with the death of my the little dragonfly… I’m not sure it worked… 😉🤔
