The Faeries Of Fry’s Lane

This mystical faerie poem was inspired by, Derrick Knights intriguing “Hedgerow Fairies” article from his site on May 21st …  …. and a big thank you to Derrick for granting me permission to use his lovely “Fairy” photos here…..

The Faeries Of Fry’s Lane

Walking down Fry’s Lane

Sheltering from the misty rain

I did spy among the hedgerow berries

A frollick of mystical faeries

Like iridescent glowing canaries

A fluttering of night-time luminaries

Trying not to disturb their magical home

I quietly asked them, “Are you all alone”

The faeries laughed and danced

They replied, “Your vision is by perchance

and your dreams may turn to stone

if you wish for a golden throne”

Suddenly the glittering sands of time

Illuminating the faeries wings of rhyme

Begun jumping off the falling star

And the faeries quickly flew back to their green Avatar

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. OH, Ivor! What a wonderful poem inspired by Derrick’s beautiful photos!
I wish the people who made, and hung, the Hedgerow Fairies could know the joy they have brought so many of us! 🙂 I KNOW they’d loved your poem and Derrick’s photos! 🙂
Fairies lead such busy, wonderful, magical lives! 🙂

      1. Hang in there. There’s definitely a lot of those to drift off into but if you let it consume you too much, they’ll suck you under and drown you. It’s tough when you have a creative mind because I feel like it never shuts off and tries to weigh all sides of everything and figure out how to fix it all. Sending positive thoughts your way. 🤗
