Wizard, (a Haiku)

Back in 1972, I was a great fan of the band, ‘Uriah Heep’, and I’d play the song “Wizard” on my record player, every chance I had. The music was magical, and the lyrics superbly depicted the feelings within my heart …. and my visions of a more peaceful and harmonious world, might soon be achieved……. That was nearly 50 years ago, and I vividly remember the song, but I’m afraid the world has forgotten the “Lyrics”

WizardΒ  (a Haiku)

Mysterious dreams

Magicians run amok

Wizards remember

The Wizard. Lyrics by Uriah Heep

He was the wizard of a thousand kings
And I chanced to meet him one night wandering
He told me tales and he drank my wine
Me and my magic man kind of feeling fine

He had a cloak of gold
And eyes of fire
And as he spoke I felt a deep desire
To free the world of its fear and pain
And help the people to feel free again

Why don’t we listen to the voices in our hearts
‘Cause then I know we’d find we’re not so far apart
Everybody’s got to be happy
Everyone should sing
For we know the joy of life
The peace that love can bring

So spoke the wizard in his mountain home
The vision of his wisdom means we’ll never be alone
And I will dream of my magic night
And the million silver stars that guide me with their light

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

      1. I’ve been struggling for a suitable and worth response to this! I’ve even searched for a GIF to send you. But alas and alack nothing materialised. So a thousand apologies are now winging their way to you along with a blank where my wit should be

  2. Oh, Ivor, I love this song! πŸ™‚ YAY for Uriah Heep! πŸ™‚ A perfect song for our world today.

Your haiku is powerful…and yes, the wizards remember.

Most people have good hearts…if only they would listen to them, like the song says. I know if they did, the world would be better.

But, too many people are listening to their minds and listening to people who are not heart-listeners…which leads them in directions the world should not be going. 😦

    HUGS!!! ❀
PS…Take some deep breaths, smile REALLY big, and then go take a rest. You have brought joy, encouragement and hope to many people through your blogpost today! πŸ™‚

      1. HAHA! That’s okay.
I had lots of vinyl and no record player and a few years ago a dear friend bought me a nice record player so I can play all my records that I saved from The Dark Ages. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€
