Drifting Forward

I’ve having a busy Wednesday. My Barwon (Geelong) Health, and Aged Care Plan, has begun today, with a morning visit from the nurse organising my plan, and this afternoon, the plan’s Doctor came to visit me, and from tomorrow, I’ll be having daily visits by physiotherapists and occupational therapists. .. The health program is design around keeping me comfortable and safe at home, and reduce the risks of further falls or accidents in the home… Don’t worry, I am reasonably healthy, and I’m happy to be within this scheme, which is about looking after susceptible older persons living by themselves, and after my recent episodes, I’m in that category….   So my time here on WP has been limited today, and will be for a couple of weeks, as get used to health plan’s orientation and introduction…. Haha,.. having said all that, I had time to write this Haiku at lunchtime, a piece which had been drifting about in mind….

Drifting Forward

Cleanse our dirty clouds

Saturate the stains with rain

Wash away this pain

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. We ourselves know we have reached a certain age but seeing it it in black and white and realising others regard us as aged and elderly kind of hammers it home! Depressing thought!

I approach all stairs gingerly for fear of falling down them, I’ve always done so since a fall as a child in a department store, now the fears are much greater and I’m even slower!
I’m sorry about the falls and wobbles, don’t let it get you down. Take care, Ivor 🙂

      1. Yes it’s all on the advice of my last little episode 6 weeks ago… and rather than just sit back and do nothing, I’ve got myself into action, and process moving along quickly 😊🐧🐲💙🌏

I’m going ok, I’ve have been kept on my toes this week with all the health care people visiting each day,.. a physiotherapist coming this morning.. This will continue for another 10 days..
then I will be reassessed to see what my ongoing needs will be. It’s been a great opportunity for me, to have this thorough health assessment. 😊💙🌏

  4. Ivor, I knew you hadn’t been feeling well and am hugely sorry for not realizing how bad you had felt. I hope this program is just the thing you need. Between them, your music and your cakes and cafe you will be feeling on top of the world I hope! 🙂

      1. It’s a plan, you can get, after you have assessed by the aged care team, and after you have applied for the plan.. Especially if you have recently been to hospital after having a fall at home(me) and you’re over 65..

  6. The poem is beautiful with longing for something better, for something that is hope. Wash away the pain–that’s powerful and that’s what so many want the most for their inner and outer wounds/pains; they want their pain to be cleansed by a nice rain (figuratively). This is such a beautiful write, I can indeed resonate with it.

Best wishes, Ivor. I hope you are doing well. Continue doing your best and staying healthy. Much love going your way. ❤

    1. Thank you Lucy… I do enjoy the conciseness of a haiku, and how one is able to convey a meaning message in a few lines….. as my dad would say, “If you stick at it my son, you might get hang of it one day !!”

Sing along with this great song from ‘Poets of the Fall’… ,

      “Choir Of Cicadas”

It’s the season of dust trailing old pick up trucks
Seashells washed ashore down by the docks
So baby pull on your blue jeans turn the radio loud
Don’t wait for the hour to give birth to doubt

In the peak harvest of snakebites and wasted hindsight
When trivial truths sit next to the taillights
When fenders of chrome they rattle and hum
All carved in the shape of freedom

Those flea market stalls in the bone dry noon
Despite pretty signs, look cursed and marooned
And trumpet notes wailing from the candy store
Like a work of art of uneasy rapport

The wreckage, the blunder, the tarot read
In the heat blurry air we’re down in the field
Where to the choir of cicadas’ jubilee
Among the clouds we once fell asleep

The sirens of the shipyard by those derelict whales
Old mothers singing rusty old tales
Like revving engines keening sky high
Yet theirs is never a war cry

So I’ll be your lover now, brazen and bright
Like the flare of a match you struck in the night
Though what does a stray know ’bout holy and true
But I’ll always come to your rescue

Oh lord won’t you hear your children cry
Singing their praise and their hallelujahs
I have no more words to describe
An empty sky of hollow blue, yeah
So where is my lover, my firelight
The line on the edge of truth and rumour
We took our vows in the heart of the night
We were brazen and bright, when we were brazen and bright

  10. I went through a couple of months of blacking out and falling. Fortunately no broken bones or severe injury. They finally changed my medicines and I’ve been ok. Went through the physical therapy and doing daily exercises. I’m glad you’re feeling better and that you are in the program. Stay well dear friend.

    1. Like old trees in own backyards, we’re ok in our familiar surroundings, and nurtured with care and love,… we stand steady, but gradually losing our protective layers of bark, between these days of sunlight and dark.. Stay strong my friend and may you keep swaying daily in the warm afternoon breeze.. ((hugs))
