Swaying in the Winter Sun

Swaying in the Winter Sun

Firmly I stand in the township’s central park

I’m the small haven’s guardian monarch

Proudly presiding over historical plaques

Winter’s revealed my ancient stretch marks

But an un-seasonal sun warms my stringy bark

As my old branches perennially await the springtime larks

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

So I’m stuck inside for another 6 weeks… it’s not good for me, in my present circumstances, I’ll just have to battle through it… 💙🌏☺🤔

    1. I enjoy imagining myself to be a tree, a flower, or any animal/creature…. I like to give them a voice, because they are all living entities…. all species of our planet earth… and we all have to live here together…. 🧡💛💚💙🖤

      1. That is really wonderful.. tried few pieces too giving voices to plants and flowers and it was a wonderful creative journey as well as journey on self realization as well.

  2. I love the symbolism and imagery here. It’s evocative and amazing. The tree images are beautiful as well and you capture their likeness greatly in your poem. The first few lines drew me in as they intrigued me. Another lovely piece, Ivor. ❤️

  3. Great poem Ivor! Love the creative animated video!
I love the line of … Winter’s revealed my ancient stretch marks

I have two young willow trees that grow stretchmarks abut 3/4 of an inch wide each year.

  4. You could be writing about me and what does that say about anything living? Nature? We are one and the same going through the same circle of life: birth, growth, old age, goodbye, and renewal again and again!
    Very nice poem Ivor.

  5. Ivor, somehow I missed this post. I am glad I found it! Beautiful words and beautiful sentiment! One thing I like, and one reason I so much look forward to your posts, is your authenticity. You speak from the heart, without artifice or ornamentation. I like the music too. Take care, Cheryl
