An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
Mirror, Mirror, Who’s Next to Fall
This Saturday the Weekend Challenge from “Weekly Prompts” is Reflections. Please go over and visit their fabulous site by clicking >> Here . And here’s my poem in response to their prompt.
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Such a very emotional poem Ivor..we dont know how long this pandemic will gonna be..all we know we need to hang on ang keep our hopes high..be well my freind and keep safe..
Ivor, a well-written poem. Seven years is a bit of hyperbole, don’t you think? I am thinking the isolation will be over much sooner than that! Soon it will be warm and sunny. You will be sitting in the cafe with coffee and cake and writing lovely poems. π All the best! Cheryl
I am so impressed at your use of words and choice of phrases, the poem is beautifully crafted Ivor. A piece of broken mirror can inspire a poem with food for thought. Suffering the virus wreckage- its effects are far reaching and into corners of our lives we could never imagine. Well done, so beautifully written.
In some ways being busy at work is good for you, and keeps your mind active and healthy.. Here at home I rely on my own resources to keep myself active… ππ
I think someone somewhere must have dropped an enormous mirror to give us all this much bad luck!
Your self-isolation will be over soon enough, I wish I could say the same for the virus. Never let down your guard, Ivor. π
It takes a bit of getting used to, but after a while you think it’s not too bad after all. It’s just a pity that everything takes longer than before. π
At the moment I’m using the blocks but choosing the Classic Block and simply because I can edit far quicker. Then, when I’ve finished and proofread I add the images via the image block, I like the finish of images via the block.
Right now the mixture of both works for me. Though I will keep going back to the default block editor just to see if anything has speeded up or improved. π
The usual problem is – as an example – You write and publish an article on the 20th, you repost again on the 21st and the publication date on the article changes to the new date (21st), this means that the pingback you created still has the previous day’s date (20th) and that’s why it canβt find your article and says page not found. π
I can feel the emotions behind your words, Ivor. Know that you are not alone. β€
I think this virus might be like flu' viruses and continue to be out there all the time from now on. π¦
We will hope they can find better treatments, and a vaccine, that will help in the years to come.
But, who knows.
I will continue to find the joys in every day…whether I live one more day or a million more days. π
Hozier and that song have been a part of my life since I first heard him sing in 2013. π
(((HUGS)))
I was doing some bathroom renovations, and the mirror above the basin had to come down.. Damn.. the mirror was firmly glued onto the tiled wall.
…wow. What a task, and the mirror ended up in a 1000 pieces… hopefully my new wall cabinet will be worth the effort…. And the broken mirror became the prompt for my intriguing little poem, after a long and tiring clean up of the scattered pieces.. my imagination was in high agitation mode.. πππ
My poems help me to stay positive… even though the mirror situation was frustrating,.. writing the poem became an interesting outlet for my irritation πππ
Hahaha!!! Never!!! I know someone who did a PhD in Russian aged 90!!!! Having begun studying the subject at conversation classes aged 80…πππβ€β€β€ there’s always room for improvement…πΊππ ππ¦β€π¦π
I am eagerly anticipating getting OFF of full blown quarantine this week. Before that it was greatly restricted movements. We need to keep encouraging one another. Are you able to still go get your cake and coffee????

That’s the heaviness of the problem/situation Mich… It’s the not knowing, and the uncertainty of where the end is…

Finding that lost image of who you once were, certainly, isn’t easy, as time keeps on rolling, and you are, NO longer who you were, a second ago…

Life and these times of change seem to be moving in a different direction ….to my cracked and unstructured image…..

Yes it’s definitely a slower system, some of the simple procedures take 2 or 3 separate keyboard functions. ππ

There is a block called Classic. It is amongst the blocks, almost identical to the old one. Check out my guide. Accessing the Classic Block.

Thanks Sue… But I think I’ll stick with it, I don’t want to confuse myself, just one thing at a time for me…. I’m really not clever technically…

Whoops. I’m on phone in bed.. Anyhow without change the linkback to your site, my poem now still opens on Weekly Prompts…. Yeah.. Bonus…

Also, I find the desktop App is now useless, it does not show all the available blocks. So I find it easier to work online instead.

Oh, yes, taking mirrors off of walls is difficult to do!

I’m allowed to go out, but the coffee & cake Cafe is only allowed take-aways, I’m really missing my little chats, and my relaxing writing outings…
