Who’s Carrying the Torch

This new Fall fell

Leaving us no time to dwell

Nothing will ever be the same

Where’s the old Olympic flame?

The world’s bubble has burst

Pricked by a deflating curse

Then captured inside the owner’s empty purse

Are we spinning in reverse?

The snails have left their shells

Searching for a new citadel

Lugging the fading Olympic torch

Can the cauldron again light-up our front porch?

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. Thank you Gina… I wasn’t sure whether my poem really finished, but I published the words anyway, I’m heading out to to a little plumbing job this morning… I’m so pleased you think the poem is ok…πŸ˜€πŸ˜Š

      1. Perhaps the games will have to be virtual as I am sure Govts will not allow so many people to travel to one place. Personally I would like the gatherings to resume as how many people died from any virus during the last gathering for the Olympics.

  1. I love the image of the snails leaving their shells… it seems like ours get ripped off us all the time..I like to think too there is a light burning and I take great comfort from the Sun lately I breathe its energy into my heart and know we are made of stars, whatever worldly things occur we will continue on as part of that light… ❀

    1. Hello Deb, how are you… I’m just back from my Coffee and cake, and a nice walk in the sun… I worked again this morning, so all round it’s been a good day for me… my poem is basically a positive one, but there’s still plenty of unanswered questions about the direction of our future….

Yes, Ivor. Everything is changing so much. and its getting to feel worrying with the direction things are heading.. Will we be even more isolated and out of touch? I feel this all of the time.. Its so important to have each other right now… so good to hear your news.. lots and lots of love and hugs ❀ ❀ ❀

      2. Yes, It’s important to keep in with everyone we can… even under these difficult distance circumstances…just to feel like we are a part of the universe….
        “Love is our universe within
Without our universe there is no love ”

The cake was a apple, ginger and oatmeal one

      3. Wow Yumm I think I have to make a cup of tea Ivor.. I do believe the universe is based on love when we fail to love its like we cut off the flow of creative energy. and when the earth gets damaged that happens and it happens when humans hurt and distance from each other and love.. thats when things get really sad and desperate.

    1. thank you Carolyn… I suppose my mind was thinking about Olympics,,, It’s 20 years since I had my first bad stroke… when the 2000 Olympics were being held in Sydney… and I spent the entire Olympics flat on my back here in Geelong Hospital.. I think this poem is full of hope… and the Olympics will recover…. the same as I did 20 years ago…

  2. Ivor, I am looking forward to the time when we can rebuild better than before. Hope I live to see it!

Your poem is so beautifully written, and the colorful metaphors drove home the extent of the damage to our world and way of life. I hope people are listening. ❀ Enjoy your cake. Stay safe and healthy!

    1. Thank you Cheryl….. there’s back ground story to this poem…. 20 years ago when I suffered my first stroke, the Sydney 2000 Olympics were being held…. and I can’t remember much, as I was flat on my back in hospital for the entire Olympics….. I survived, and my flame’s still burning, and hopefully the Olympic Flame will survive too….
