The Reincarnation of a Pumpkin

My poem is in response to a Halloween Prompt from Ingrid, at “Experiments In Fiction”, you can visit the Prompt and her site by clicking on this link >> https://experimentsinfiction.com/2020/10/24/eif-poetry-challenge-8-halloween-special/

The Reincarnation of a Pumpkin

My locked bubble is about to go boom

A year I’ve been a stranger in my own tomb

Under a pumpkin lid, hiding my gloom

Where my world was a rotting cave of doom

Now these orange walls are my life-giving womb

Being reborn like a smiling old groom

I’m breaking away from the master’s dead blooms

Escaping on the green witch’s magical broom

Flying over the full moon of autumn

Where I’ll be able to wear my mask and costume

Hidden under my orange Kaftan from Khartoum

And I’ll invade the newsrooms, and all the children’s bedrooms

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. Yes.. I’ve just found both of your comments in my trash folder… hopefully now that I’ve replied to your comments, they won’t end up in trash again…

  1. Ivor, I am glad you were able to be reborn and get out of that lousy pumpkin! I’d like to see you in that costume. an orange kaftan from Khartoum, and flying over the autumn moon on the green witch’s magical broom. πŸ™‚ Charming piece of fantasy! Stay well and happy!
