An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
A Fish Out Of Water
The featured image above, is my photo of a painting by Graeme Altman, titled ‘Hopeful-return’, while on display at the Boom Gallery in Geelong, during September 2018.
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Wonderful poem, Ivor! What we are not is of little importance compared to what we are. I like your description of yourself as a “raucous lyre bird seeking the word.” Your poetry always has a feeling of authenticity and sparkles with wit and good humor. ❤ Take care!
Thanks Cheryl, a poem I wrote in the rustic and sparkling atmosphere of the Box Office Cafe…. as I was trying to capture the aura of this weeks emotions… 😀😎
That painting stirs the imagination!
Your poem a masterpiece that we can all relate to!
Keep sharing your words, Ivor, because you have important words! 🙂
I always love hearing the Bee Gees! 🙂
(((HUGS))) 🙂
Haha, another great old Aussie Band… I’ve still got their first vinyl … like the incredible painting, my poem can be interpreted in thoughtful ways…
Wow… “A Masterpiece”… you’ve made my day.. 😀😎😍
Thanks Gina, and how are you today…
and I’m pleased with this poem, which I wrote at the Cafe, there seemed to an aura joy and contentment around me, and I was trying to capture that overall feeling…
I like the subtle play of the rhyme scheme, alliteration and assonance here, Ivor: a thoughtful and delightful poem! Do you live near Geelong? I read the novel ‘Illywhacker’ some time ago, I think it was set there?
Thank you Ingrid, and the poem flowed well for me… my thoughts were clear, and the scheme/words were basically in my mind ready to write….
And I do live in Geelong.. but not sure about where the book was set..

It’s by Peter Carey. I’ll have to re-read it as it was pretty amazing. Keep the words flowing 😊
