The Old Child In Me

Ho Ho, there is a child in me

splashing in the cool summer sea

dreaming of distant alpine trees

fluttering like a pretty butterfly in the breeze

laughing under moss covered circus marquees

and there is that day I sat on Santa’s knee

asking for my red-head to be set free

wishing her a life of peace and tranquillity

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Aw…this got me teary-eyed, Ivor. What a beautiful, self-less, loving wish for your Carole. I’m sure she IS in peace and continues to surround you with love and smiles. She’s proud of you. πŸ™‚
And with that song playing…oh, the emotions did flow. πŸ™‚
We should listen more to the child within us…the purity, innocence, compassion, honesty, love, acceptance…etc… πŸ™‚

    1. Haha… the child in me used up a box of tissue while I writing the last few lines, and I was at the Box Office Cake, … some of the patrons looked a bit worried,… but the waitresses who know me… walk pass me… and pat me on the shoulder… “Not another one Ivor!!”… oh I do wear/show my emotions openly…
And Lisa Hannagin sings with such emotion… she always touches my sensitive soul..

  2. Your last line a difficult but brave filled with compassion, I can feel your tears and pain. It was before a Christmas my father passed I could bear to see him suffer as I slowly turned my back to him to cry begging the Lord to take him out of his suffering. I thought he did not see me but he had.

Wishing you a peace and love filled Christmas knowing your dear Carole is always at your side. Bless you Ivor.

  3. A gutsy poem Ivor, so moving, thank you for taking us into your inner sanctum and sharing in your grief. I love the compound of remember – re-member, to put back together, here in narrative you do that.
