Featured Image Above: A sketch by my niece Kerri Costello
Today I am presenting the “second” ‘5min’ poem that I wrote at Ali Grimsham’s ‘Writing Circle’ Zoom meeting, that I attended on Monday this week, and this was my 2nd session/week with the group, and I am having a delightful time. Here is the page link to get more information about the next writing circle. https://flashlightbatteries.blog/online-writing-circles/ Tickets by donation. All are welcome.
Who Is Responsible
Our responsibilities come and go
Some do leave, others do grow
There is a limit
To how many breaths we need a day
And there is a limit
To the length of our stay
Here sitting on yesterday
Approving of life’s work today
I ponder about tomorrow
Looking out beyond my dirty window
For the direction of next years ice-flow
To avoid last years cloudless shadows
And dodge this year’s poison arrows
Ivor Steven (c) January 2021.
keep on keeping on

I just love Kerri’s artwork and how the animals are covering their ears, eyes and mouth. We have to close ourselves to the dark words of society. We have to have courage to continue in our new ways to bring in changes. Great song.

Thank you dear Nanette, I was really happy to come up with this little poem at my Zoom meeting, and this morning I added the song and Kerri’s sketch, which will one her drawings in my upcoming book 😀😍

Kerri is such a gifted artist! 🙂 I feel honored to get to see her work! 🙂
Those sweet creatures she created with the “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” gestures are wonderful! I know that expression has several meanings, but it reminds me we should not tolerate evil/wrong…not engage with those who perpetuate wrong…not bury our heads in the sand but stand up for and help those who need help.
Your poem is wonderful, Ivor!!! I wish you an amazing 2021, filled with love and laughter!
(((HUGS))) 🙂
PS…Yes, beautiful Sia…perfect song for a new year…YES! the courage to change to help make positive changes!

Yes Kerri’s drawings are amazing … as you know ..!! this one is a sneak preview to her 5 drawings that’ll be in my upcoming book… and Sia’s song was perfect for my poem… and America has already start the 2021 year, in a courageous way… I just wrote a couple of lines at my Photography group with this mornings’ photo “I am lucky to have a piece of this rock,
And be a cog in this world’s clock
😀😎😍🌏🌎

I love this poem how it flows from yesterday into today and tomorrow – how the responsibility shifts and how the process goes on, while our roles stay temporary.

Thank you Pragalbha, this is the prompt poem that Ali Grimshaw read to us, and then we had ‘5mins’ to write our poem…
Lysbeth Em Benkert
Neither mice, nor cookies, nor boxes
If you open a box and it’s empty,
if you pull off the tape and flatten it out,
if the flattened container sits by the door to the garage,
if you walk past it every day but it never makes it into the recycling bin,
if it gathers dust and cat hair and kitchen crumbs,
if it becomes a judgment of your self-worth,
if you trip on it every third time you leave your house,
Whose disapproval does your inertia repudiate?
Where does the voice come from that pins your obligation to the floor?
How does the weight of it become greater than the inconvenience of its disposal?
What is the tipping point that slides into change?
When did this poem stop being about boxes?

I have been in Ali’s writing circle, what a rich experience always.

Ali’s a wonderful host, and it’s hard to explain to others, except the sharing of thoughts and words, is purely a delightful experience…😀

They’ll always be something to do, and things to create… and my dear Kerri is my inspiration behind the birth of this project… She’s the one who encouraged me to do a blog site 3 years ago …, because she thought my poems were good enough for everyone to read… 😀😘

Well you have a lot to thank her for, in that case!

Indeed so Ingrid. And considering how disabled she is,(she has SMA) her courage and ability to overcome life’s obstacles is a big driving force behind my stroke recovery and my writings.. so between her, and my soul mate Carole, I suppose I was destined to be a writer some sort. 😅💚🌏
