A Butterfly and the Bookworm

“Do you know how to fly?”

Said the butterfly to the bookworm

“No” The old bookworm replied

“However, I did have an aeroplane ride”

And he added

“After I had eaten all the words out of the recycle bin

a nasty jet-stream zoomed by and clipped my wings”

[Butterfly] “That was harsh for only swallowing leftover rubbish

which had never been recited nor published”

[Bookworm] “Yep, and on my flight back I suffered

locked in a box with refurbished hardcovers

that had very chewy dust-covers

and were tough skinned like my kangaroo brothers

[Butterfly] “Did you munch on the titles inside that cardboard nook

[Bookworm] “No! The covers glared at me with a spooky look”

[Butterfly] “What was the name of that mysterious book”

[Bookworm] “Tullawalla was the one that magically shook

Looking like a colourful and captured snook

Soon to be released from its grappling hook”

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. Thank you Sadje … yes it was a fun piece, although as a writer I struggle with dialogue format in poetry, so it took me all day to get the dialogue to flow for me 😊🌏📖

      1. I can understand that, conversations are difficult to reproduce, you have to imagine you are the person having the conversation and not the eavesdropping poet.🙂

      2. Sorry I meant five-day!
The Delta variant is now the dominant variant everywhere in the world. It’s more contagious than any other. So when you open up again do take care.
