That Old Familiar Fireplace

The year faltered and stumbled by

After Santa’s last reindeer traveled the sky

Months of ‘covid’ blocked all roads to Rome

That prevented families from going home

When the festive season did arrive

Finally there were real hugs and high fives

Rejoicing among warm hearts and smiling faces

Standing cozily beside those old familiar fireplaces

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Quite gladdening to feel the immense happiness this season has brought with it to places far and near. It’s been a rough time and when indeed people can come together and rejoice, ain’t that marvelous!! That poem has fully captured the moment. 🤗

Yes, I felt the warmth of the family fireplace this past week…and I felt even more warmth from the love of the beloved ones who were with me. 🙂 We must always hold that warmth and love in our hearts! 🙂
