Who’ll Stop The Rain

I hardly ever leave my house

Answering the phone is a pain

I cringe like a mouse

In the spotlight again

I feel anxious and threatened

A load of trash blocks my way

The door slams shut every split second

I sit in my chair, am I here to stay?

I hear a cold Autumn wind blow

Rustling leaves against the window-pane

I cannot stop the noise and it has begun to snow

Falling began long ago, who is here to stop the rain?

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Although we are safe and comfortable and have enough to eat, we feel the suffering and grief in Ukraine. This is an attack on human rights, on sovereignty of nations, on democracy. It is an attack on all of us! Indeed, Ivor, we do “feel anxious and threatened.” Thank you for your eloquent poem! ❤

    1. Thank you Cheryl for your thoughtful and accurate interpretation of my words .. and this war is totally archaic for our modern society … he has wound back the clock to the brutality of WWII 🥲🌏☮️

  2. A powerful, heart-touching, important-message poem, Ivor! Thank you for writing this and sharing it with us. Each generation…each time in history…needs good men (and women) to step up and lead with a servant-heart…bringing light, warmth, safety, peace, etc., to the peoples.
With our world the way it is today, so many people (and creatures) suffer. 😦

  3. another poem straight to the heart Ivor. I continue to feel like you and most of my poetry is pretty grim these days. I had a piece that came out on Spillwords today with some of the same sentiments and that was before the war began or was just starting. 😢💖🌻🙏🙏🙏
