The Last Living Rose

Give me shelter

From this daily war-zone

Throw me a blanket

Anything!

To protect my wilting petals

I am cold and lonely

I am tired and hungry

I am scared

Do not let me wither away

Help me

My brothers

The sunflowers

Are war torn too

Do not leave us

Please save us

Give me shelter

From this hard rain

Throw me your shadows

Anything!

To remove the thorns in my side

I am the last living rose

Do not forget me

Throw me an anchor

Anything!

To reground my ancient roots

Before I am blown away

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. And when the sunflower saw the rose needed help she spread her petals around her friend the rose, when the other flowers saw this, they became a bouquet, with the rose in the center, never to be alone.

    1. Oh, Colleen what a beautiful thought .. letโ€™s hope all the flowers of the world unite to help our lonely rose in the Ukraine ๐Ÿฅ€๐ŸŒปโ˜ฎ๏ธ๐Ÿ’œ

  2. The rose needs its protective, sharp thorns to keep it alive as long as possible; in late autumn, we see it droop like a living person — a parson, perhaps, enchanted by the sound of his own voice in the wind.
