Pain And Tears

A poem about a painful procedure I had a few years ago โ€ฆ sadly my back pain today is feeling very similar ๐Ÿค—๐ŸŒ

Pain and Tears

I was curled up like a baby

Exposing my arched back

Firstly an aching anesthetic needle

Then a probing harpoon

They were digging deep beneath

I was gritting my teeth

They had missed the spot

Hitting bone, not forgiving or soft

I screamed in pain

My tears poured like rain

Finally the probe was extracted

And with another injection of anesthetic

A second probing spear

The next failure I did fear

I’m biting that imaginary bullet

My tears poured like rain

They pulled out the rod again

One more go, they deemed

Is the procedure a bad dream

More anesthetic went in

Followed by that probing rod

Relief, they find the core’s spot

The spinal fluid is drained

Happily, my tears stopped again

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

      1. My poor son had one at three years old. After the first go failed , they decided to knock him out fortunately. Poor soul was walking around like a little old man for a while, so I know these things are not very nice. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  1. Oh, Ivor, what a dreadful experience to endure. I am so sorry.
Right now, I am on another catch up with my reader I’ve managed to get a couple of days behind. I am working backwards (strange logic) and will get back to you as I’m certain there will be more posts from you. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. This gave me shivers! Sounded like the anesthesia they gave me for my c-sections. A nurse had to hold me down so I wouldnโ€™t jump up when they did it. Iโ€™m so sorry you had to go through this but your poetic description is right on. Rest up and get better! โค๏ธ

Perfect song and photo to go with your powerful poem.
    Do you have more tests?
If so, I hope they go much much much (a million much-es) better than that bad lumbar puncture.
Gentle (((HUGS))) and continued healing thoughts and prayers.
PS…I’m listening to Amiee Mann sing while I blog. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. In cases like these, you have to wonder: whatever happened to anesthesia, I was only given a local anesthetic too when I had to get an angio back in the 2000s, and, I could feel that long needle, jabbed into my groin region too…
