Softly I Walk

My sensitive old pen

Bleeds words of why and when

And scrawls blue lines now and then

Life and love have left me breathless

However, my empty body is not heartless

Nor is my tired soul sightless

I hear the crusty sky softly walk

And I listen to my angel’s wings quietly talk

About when her universe turned into chalk

The Nature of Daylight

Featured Image above: by Derrick Knight, with his kind permission, and here here is link to his article today >> https://derrickjknight.com/2021/08/24/synchronised-grazing/

My poem today was written at Ali Grimshaw’s, poetry ‘Writing Circle’ Zoom meeting event.. Once again it was a privilage to listen intently to others and be heard with the same intention. Time to be still and reflect. Not to mention, getting to know people from all over the world. What a joy! And I thoroughly reccommend Ali’s Writing Circle programs to all interested poets out there, you will not be disappointed if you decide to attend… You may connect with her site via this link >>

The Nature of Daylight

The morning clouds are grey

And all is calm on the bay

As the day drifts away

Floating on a twilight sea-spray

Inside I sit beside a smokeless ashtray

Where I watch a Swanlake ballet

Dance under my moonlit archway

As I await the dawn’s next display

May the Whales Find Their Tails

After climbing high into the clouds

Upon descending with rain and sunshine on your shroud

Life will fall on your shoulders, leaving you wise and proud

Then that full sail will always be your holy grail

And you can delete those old tell-tale snail trails

May the whales find their tails

And hopefully the quails will always wail

Lonely Wattle Tree

There you stand, under grey skies

My lonely wattle tree

Are you my only butterfly?

Where are your industrious bees?

Why has your horizon glassy eyes?

Have you a view of the sea?

If so, tell me why does she cry?

When her tides cover life’s secret keys

Outlaws Without Claws

Here I am without resistance

Waiting for existance

To give me due cause

As to when my heart is allowed a pause

Away from lethal claws

And government outlaws

In the Valley of Light

The cold winds of change

Blow down from the mountain range

Gathering lost souls estranged

Rescuing them from the forest of shadows

To roam free among sunny valleys tomorrow

Where there is light, there is colour,

Where there is colour, there is energy

Where there is energy, there is life

Burnt at ThCross

Oh, Children

I’m deeply saddened

Your innocence lost

Burnt by the cross

You’re not to blame

For this baptism of shame

By the priest’s dirty games

Filthy rapists by any other name

Piously veiled by higher Cloth

The Lord’s words, written off

Hidden up darkened sleeves

I cannot see, I no longer believe

On a prayer and a song

The church is doing wrong

Burnt Toast And A Cold Shower

When it’s so hard to get out of my warm bed

I force myself to throw the sheets off

And I face another day again

When the light doesn’t go on above my head

I replace the globe and flick the switch

And I see Again

When my shower hot water turns cold

I patiently wait for the boiler to reheat

And I shall be ready again

When the toaster burns my bread

I turn the grey dial down to three

And I restart again

When the kettle runs bone dry

I dutifully refill the jug

And enjoy a cuppa’ again

When breakfast is done and it’s time to run

I feel the advantage of being alive

And I smile at my world again

Dragons and Faeries

My dragon flew me to New York

His scaly tail was singed

By the stoic statue’s torch

As we were landing upon Central Park

And in the city’s mystical forest I stood

Amongst strawberry fields and woods

Atop the plaque of my dreams

I imagined, how life should’ve been

My naked soul, a vision unseen

I have a dream, like John’s world

Togetherness, love pristine

The apple uneaten

And the snake shyly beaten

I see peace, within evil’s tiredness

Burnt-out flames, of the devil’s nakedness

Leaving us life’s leftover ashes

Then the peace dove shall arise from the ruins

And the lost faeries, will return as humans
